| BREEDING
As the vegetative propagation of Helleborus niger yields
only a few new plants, propagation is usually done by sowing seeds.
As variations in the following generation naturally occur when
using this method, Heuger-Blumen's foremost aims are to ensure
homogeneity in the plant stock, early flowering, abundant flowers
and resistance to disease (especially Coniothyrium hellebori)
The positive results can be seen every winter, and speak for
the work in this field that has been done by Heuger
for more than 30 years.
The variety of colours in which the Helleborus - hybrids are available
(red, pink, yellow, green, blue and white, spotted or wi th stripes)
also reflects the sucess of the breeding methods used over the
last few decades. |
